Pentagon. Potomac Mills. Mount Vernon. Wolf Trap.
If you know where these landmarks are, then this site is for you.
ForWord's other services

The Old Dominion

Those who call the Old Dominion home are quite lucky when it comes to higher education resources.  Below are some resources just for you, you Lucky Ducks.

Virginia Public Universities

Below is a list of the public universities in Virginia along with some of the most important information.   Note that this information is approximate and current as of February 2018.

Note that Virginia Tech's admission rate changed drastically from 2017 to 2018. For instance, at one Northern Virginia high school that admission rate dropped from 70 to 35%. This means that for the class of 2019 it's very difficult to predict admissions chances. Additionally, Tech has changed its admission requirements quite a bit (four required essays, EA in addition to ED, etc.), making it difficult to determine the admissions patterns.

Virginia's Private Universities

In addition to all of the great public options, Virginia hosts a large number of quality private universities too. In addition to the general admission information for each, ForWord has also included a brief description about each university's affiliation.

Did you know that Virginia residentsattending Virginia private colleges are eligible for a guaranteed grant? Apply by July 1.

I highly recommend College Exploration Consulting.

Dr. Katie Boone
College Exploration Consulting, LLC

Dr. Katie Boone works with high school students to explore their future plans. She leads them through an individual assessment and discusses possible majors and occupations as they begin the college application process. Selecting a college can be daunting and not fully understanding your strengths and skills can inhibit that process. Students do not necessarily need to select a major right now, but it does help to have an idea. She helps with that conversation by exploring their strengths and skills and identifying how those can lead to a career path. All the puzzle pieces are there, it is about learning to fit them together.

There are two sessions lasting 1-1/2 hours each at your home. She meets with parents first and then the students. Katie uses a terrific product that has 5 different assessments: work interest, values, personality, leisure and skills. The results are then matched to possible occupations and majors, which starts a conversation. There is a report generated at the completion of both meetings.

She charges $225.00 for the two sessions. The fee includes access to the database, which has the occupation and major search; and, also includes a college search of all accredited colleges in the US, a notes feature, resume and other unique features to further explore interests and options.

Katie has a Masters degree in guidance and counseling and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. She has worked in Higher Education for 25+ years, both in student affairs and as a professor, and currently teaches at the university level. She is a native Arlingtonian and has also worked in Arlington Public Schools. She is certified in 4 different skills assessments and researched extensively before selecting this product, in particular to assist students with not only exploring what they want to do but in also making the connection to college selection.  She has worked with students at all stages of the transition to college and understands the stress involved for both students and their parents, and she would love the opportunity to work with your children.

Katie is available to set up an appointment after school or on the weekends. Here is her contact information
