You've secured an interview for your first choice college, an Ivy, or maybe a big-deal scholarship. Being prepared for the interview  can make or break your chances.  Here's some advice.

​What (not) to Wear

Look, each generation is less formal the the one before it. We can't remember the last time we've worn pantyhose. However, that doesn't mean our choices are everyone's choices. Just because you show up for an interview in flip-flops doesn't mean you're not qualified, it just means you're not ready.

Business casual is the general rule plus a smile on your face.

So You'll Be Ready

Boy Scouts aside, being prepared is a great idea for all interviewees. 

What to do? 

• Know the university inside and out.
• ​Know yourself inside and out.
• Know why you want to go and be specific about department names, colleges, professors and groups.
• Bring two copies of your resume.
• Bring a pen and notebook.
• Smile and relax.
• Shake hands with everyone when you arrive.
• Thank everyone when you leave.
• Write a thank you note when you get home.
